New York Task Force 1 is Sent to Texas to help with emergency and relief efforts in the path of Hurricane Rita.

 

The NY FEMA team was sent to Dallas Texas to help with relief efforts in the path of Hurricane Rita. The team is part of New York Task Force 1 or NY-TF1, which has a total of 210 city police and fire department members.

The self-supporting team brought food, water, tents, boats and medical supplies to the region in Rita’s path at the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Hurricane Rita was the fourth-most intense Atlantic hurricane ever recorded and the most intense tropical cyclone ever observed in the Gulf of Mexico. Rita caused $12 billion in damage on the U.S. Gulf Coast in September 2005.  Rita was the seventeenth named storm, tenth hurricane, fifth major hurricane, and third Category 5 hurricane of the historic 2005 Atlantic hurricane season.
